Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan Giving Away 99% of Facebook Wealth

Alongside the announcement of their baby daughter; Max, new parents Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have decided to launch their foundation; the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative that will receive 99% of the couple’s Facebook shares (currently valued at $45billion). Writing as new parents in a public letter on Facebook to their daughter, they express that the state of the world as a whole will have an impact on the quality of their daughter’s life...

Max, we love you and feel a great responsibility to leave the world a better place for you and all children. We wish you a life filled with the same love, hope and joy you give us. We can't wait to see what you bring to this world.

What this demonstrates is that becoming parents has shifted Mark and Priscilla’s view of the world. Having their outlook change has caused them to feel a greater sense of responsibility and to contribute in the most effective way they can. As we reported a few weeks ago, Zuckerberg is not new to the world of philanthropy and has made mistakes that have made him realise the importance of involving communities in any philanthropic endeavours.

Tiger Woods Losing Hope

In a recent interview featured by the BBC, Tiger Woods shared the personal challenges he has been facing through his injury.

"There's nothing I can look forward to, nothing I can build towards. Where's the light at the end of the tunnel? I don't know."

Over the years Tiger Woods has been very successful in his golfing career, but his comments show the effects of a lack of meaning and purpose in his life as a whole which is absolutely crucial to long-term success. However the example of the recently passed Rugby legend Jonah Lomu has shown us that sporting legends can reinvent themselves when injuries threaten their careers. It would be sad to see such a legend of golf losing motivation when he has so much potential to give back to the game. Read the interview here.

Google Fighting For the Best Talent

Recently there have been some high profile arrivals and departures at Google - including the arrival of the autopilot expert; Robert Rose, from Elon’s Musk’s Tesla Motors. Business Insider shared how hiring Rose as a leading expert in this field will significantly speed up Google's progress in this field and is a serious sign of intent. Leading companies recognise the critical importance of finding and bringing together the right people.
