I'm certain anyone reading this knows what it feels like to know, deep down, when we're pretending to be someone we're not; in order to fit in, be respected, better liked or approved of.

What Prince Harry shows in this lovely little clip behind the scenes of a recent interview with Barack Obama, is the thing that truly warms us to others - the willingness to genuinely be ourselves, whoever we're with. He might be sitting with an ex-president of the United States of America, but he's relaxed and comfortable enough to be his playful self and joke around - warning Mr Obama how he might have to give him 'the face' if he pauses too long before answering any questions.

'Just be yourself' is common advice we might hear when worried about how we might appear or how well we might do in front of others, but people often ask, what does that really mean, to 'be yourself'? In it's simplest form it means to lead yourself from your heart, not your mind. It means to feel before thinking because the most honest and authentic part of you is what it feels like to be you, not what you think you ought to be, or even worse, what you think someone else thinks you ought to be!

'Just be yourself' is common advice we might hear when worried about how we might appear or how well we might do in front of others, but people often ask, what does that really mean, to 'be yourself' are we not always 'ourselves'?

In it's simplest form it means expressing ourselves honestly and not acting as something or someone that we're not. If we're nervous, we don't try and appear supremely confident. If we naturally like to joke around with people, then we don't hide that from people because they might not like it.

When we live this way and combine it with a desire and effort to always be as good a person as we can be, e.g. kind, generous, polite, humble and caring, then we can only be at fault for trying to be the best version of who we naturally are - and what more can anyone else expect than that? 😉
