VIDEO INSPIRATION - Navy SEAL Legend On The Power of Discipline
A Dose of Inspiration to Get Your Day Moving...
By Jatinder Singh, Associate Partner & Mentorship Coach, Lighthouse International
We previously featured ex-Navy SEAL Jocko Willink sharing his wisdom on how certain practices he learned in military service can help civilians become more effective in their lives. In the video below, he focuses on how, in order to succeed, discipline is vital.
What is interesting is that in his view, contrary to popular opinion, discipline allows people to be free rather than feel controlled. He says:
"Discipline is the root of all good qualities. But you have to absolutely apply it. It's about disciplining your emotions so you can make good decisions. It's about having the discipline to control your ego so that your ego doesn't get out of hand and control you. It's about treating people the way you would want to be treated and doing the tasks that you don't necessarily want to do but you know will help you. It's about facing your fears - it takes discipline to face your fears so that you conquer them.It about taking the hard road to do what's right."
Legends such as Jocko Willink know that without discipline, we will be more susceptible to the distractions that constantly come into our lives. It is these distractions that take our attention away from the the most important things we need to accomplish in order to live a meaningful, purposeful and ultimately successful life. It's an brilliantly motivational video - enjoy!
