Jocko Willink - Navy SEAL Legend On Taking Control of Our Minds!
A Dose of Inspiration to Get Your Day Moving...
By Jatinder Singh, Associate Partner & Mentorship Coach, Lighthouse International
In the 14-minute video below, ex-Navy SEAL Jocko Willink shares some powerful advice on how to overcome distraction and gain control of our minds so we take charge of our lives, careers and businesses.
After all, how many of us can relate to procrastinating on things we know are important but are not necessarily urgent and hence we continue to put them off? 🙂 Or how many of us feel negative at times and really wish we could change that feeling to one of greater positivity to feel better?
In his own unique way, Mr Willink says that the key to achieving control over our lives is to take control of our minds!! Legends know that we aren't the environment we were brought up in or the thoughts in our head - we have the power to choose - now! As he says:
"That thing [your mind] you can control. You are the machine and you can control the machine...You have that ability, you just have to assert it. You have to decide that you are going to be in control and that you are going to do what you want to do. Weakness does not get a vote, Laziness doesn't get a vote, sadness - no vote...The next time you are feeling soft or emotional, tell them [those feelings] you are declaring martial law on your mind...Impose what you want on your brain.."
While watching this honest video, do bare in mind that Mr Willink was trained in an environment to suppress his emotions. While he may refer to feelings as 'soft', don't let that get in the way of the message he is sharing on how to find meaning in becoming more disciplined. There is a lot we can learn from him.

I am passionate about fulfilling my potential in life and helping others to do the same, so that we can all make a difference to society. I’ve learnt that fulfilment comes from pursuing a goal that is greater than my own ambitions and having a real purpose.
I originally qualified as a Chartered Accountant but it was helping people through entrepreneurship and career development, rather than doing the numbers when I really came started to enjoy myself. I have found that we aren’t taught as youngsters how to deal with challenging life situations and so there are many people that on the “outside” are fine, but “inside” really struggle.
