The 45 Minute Plank Hold... Are You Up For It??

If you've ever tried the 'plank' exercise, you'll know it can be a deceivingly tough exercise. If you've never done it, you're basically holding yourself in the push-up position for as long as you can to strengthen your core area (stomach and back).

If you've done it, you've probably held it for 2... 3... maybe 5 minutes if you're strong. So how would a FORTY-FIVE MINUTE plank hold sound to you?

Nuts, right?!

Then you have to check this video out from 'SEALFIT' - an academy for everyday people to emulate Navy SEAL training. But this isn't just about some insane workout, there's some really, really powerful lessons to take from this before you watch it:

  1. Breathing - Notice how much emphasis the instructor places on proper, calm breathing during the exercise. It's a fact that good, calm breathing can help you push through pain barriers - physical or mental.
  2. Self-Talk - Listen to the encouragement that the instructors give - the phrases they encourage the athletes to repeat to themselves. What do you say to yourself when you're exercising? 'I can't wait until this is over!!' Or 'Yes, I am doing this!' True in fitness and in life...
  3. Working Together - Notice halfway through how one of the athletes encourages the others to keep going. How much would they have achieved if they were just doing it on their own by comparison??
