SpaceX Return To Space Flight!

By Tom Hasker, Associate Partner, Lighthouse International

If at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again.

Last year, on September the 1st 2016, SpaceX suffered the loss of a rocket and cargo on the launchpad at Cape Canaveral, while fueling before take-off. This meant a lot of hard work to identify the cause, re-design the failed component and get back to flight.

On Saturday 14th January 2017, SpaceX successfully launched the first of 7 payloads for telecoms company Iridium, who are updating their fleet of communications satellites. Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, celebrated the launch with this tweet;

“If anyone on this planet can recover from this, it’s Elon Musk.”

These are the words of Dick Rocket, the CEO of New Space Global who's satellite was lost in the explosion in September 2016. What legends like Mr Musk have learnt, is that in order to pursue your dream, you may have to take a few knocks. When he started the company in March 2002, it suffered 3 launch failures before the final and successful 4th attempt that proved the company was ready for business. Taking the rough with the smooth is the key to any entrepreneur's success in life and business. What get's you through the tough spots is a clear vision and mission. For example, SpaceX states on its website;

"SpaceX designs, manufactures and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft. The company was founded in 2002 to revolutionise space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets."

With a clear view of the future expressed like this, the drive to get back to flight is clear and has a meaning and direction behind it. To see what it means for the SpaceX team to get back to flight and what they do best, check out this video of their latest launch, (for the exciting rocket launch bit, go to the 19-minute mark!)
