Paradigms! What Are They? How Can We Change Ours?
A Dose of Inspiration To Get Your Day Going.
Diane Cubitt, Associate & Mentorship Coach, Lighthouse International
The late, great Steven Covey, Author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, asks a powerful question in the video below,
"Are you willing to look for a solution, that is better than either one of us has come up with?"
Looking at our paradigms (or the way we see the world) and how we can change them we need to ask ourselves how we can look at ourselves and change what we see? None of us see reality exactly how it is but the mistake we make is that we think the way WE see IS the way THINGS ARE!! How foolish!!
A great analogy of this, as Mr Covey explains is putting on another pair of glasses, seeing things through different lenses. In the book, he shares a powerful experience where he had a big paradigm shift while traveling on a train. Seeing a situation that happened through a different lense and how he changed his approach.
We receive 95% of our paradigms and conditioning through the first seven years of our lives. These years are where we start to create and see who we are. Some are powerful and strong paradigms, but there are also those that are unhealthy and create limiting beliefs in us.
How we see life and how we see ourselves, starts in those first few years. If we want to change them, we need to dig deep and work consistently so that we can change them.

I have only just started to find out who I am. It
Has been an emotional journey and one that hasn’t ended yet. It is one that I am taking with the help of Lighthouse International and a great mentor. He has helped me to see who I really am and what I want to do with my life and what I want to give back. One of my ambitions is to be able to use this experience and my journey and help others find their way. When looking at what the future holds and what is waiting for me, it is scary, but then I think of what I have already achieved. I know that I can do anything I put my mind to. One of my favourite quotes is, If you can Dream it, you can believe it, You can achieve it.
