Oprah’s Fascinating Full Interview With The Will Smith Family
By Daniel Schmitz, Legends Report Contributor
Family is such a crucial area in the life of everyone yet how many of us get it right and have great relationships with their partner, their children or their extended family?
I am married myself and speaking from my own experience, being in a relationship is extremely rewarding but difficult and hard to make it right.
Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith place massive value on nurturing and building their family relationships. In the following interview with Oprah Winfrey, they speak about their relationship with each other and with having three kids they have some good parenting advice as well!
In addition they also have a good relationship with Will Smith’s Ex wife, who is also in the studio during the interview, imagine how much drama this situation would usually cause!! 🙂
The video is 41 minutes long, so maybe get a taste of it now and then watch it together with your partner or family on the weekend, there is a lot in it and it is also quite light and fun to watch.
Here are some key points from the video:
On Having Goals And a Family Vision
“If you don’t have a goal, if you don’t have a purpose for your relationship, you can get lost in the murk of the journey. There has to be a vision. Why are we together?"
“Once we started to see how the children were growing.., we decided that we wanted to make a family business..and incorporate all the talent we have in this family. That's our vision, to create a place where their dreams can come true and our extended family's dreams can come true as well.”
"We are there to help inspire and facilitate their vision because in order to reach the type of excellence..., you have to reach inside yourself. Nobody can put that drive in you, so you have to inspire the individual to find and focus on the goal that they want for themselves."
On Education & Punishment
"Well, you know, that's one of the really difficult struggles because we don't exactly believe in the idea [of punishment] and that there are consequences. We believe in restriction, that you can cut your hair, you can put stuff on your wall, you can have as much freedom as you can handle and as soon as you do something that is detrimental to you to be trusted with your freedom, then you have to be pulled back, but it's not about punishing you for what you did. It's about protecting you from the potential damage that you could do to yourself."
On Service & Greatness
"It's like with Trey with his football and Willow with singing and Jaden acting, I just want them to live in service to greatness. I want them to live and to create in a way that when people see it, people are inspired and people become better just by having contact with their things, with their excellence."
