Oprah Winfrey - Is Your Prejudice Denying You Success?

Prejudice - Legends Report

By Sukh Singh, Associate Partner, Lighthouse International

Would you consider yourself prejudiced in any way?

What if you knew that there are certain beliefs, ideas and judgements that you hold as ‘normal’ that are getting in the way of your success?

What if those beliefs are blinding you from opportunities right in front of your eyes?

Check out this very powerful experiment from the Oprah Winfrey show that shows us just how quickly we can make a snap judgement without even realising we are doing it.

Where Are Your Unconscious Prejudices Holding You Back?

It's crucial to not only become more aware of the prejudices we may unknowingly hold about race, eye colour or ethnicity, but also to examine whether unfair judgments about ourselves and others are getting in the way of our success. Like for example many people struggle to trust others and so cut themselves off from ever really trusting anyone.

Perhaps there are judgements about our friends, colleagues, family members or ourselves - tiny, unseen assumptions that we believe are true. But what if they’re not? What if we’re wrong about those people? What if, instead of having a glass ceiling on those people and the relationships we have with them, there are other opportunities that require some effort on our part...a little empathy, a little compassion? As billionaire Mark Cuban says, we all have prejudices - what matters is that we are aware of them and we choose to think differently to improve our overall quality of life.
