Be The Difference For Someone
A Dose of Inspiration To Get Your Day Going..
By Kris Deichler, Associate Partner & Mentorship Coach, Lighthouse International
This really is one of the most inspiring and touching stories of someone who has learned to magnificently overcome a huge life challenge she inherited from birth. Born without any arms, Jessica Cox is living a life that is probably more full and purposeful than most, despite what might be perceived as severe limitations. What's more is she attributes the fact that she now drives, writes, pilots an aeroplane and even fights with nunchucks - to a special person who became her mentor; who herself has the same challenges as Jessica.
Jessica is such a heartwarming example of what mentorship can do - to help us through our challenges, and inspire us to be better, and go further than we might have ever believed we ever could on our own. What's more, she's now become a mentor herself, and is using her experiences and learning, to pass on the gift - helping others with challenges like hers, find their potential and believe in their dreams.
"I can tell you today, that if I was given a choice, I wouldn't want the arms, because of the wonderful things I've been able to do - and not necessarily the things like flying a plane, but the lives I've been able to touch."
Just how much do we all face challenges, problems, fears and insecurities in our own lives and wish them away. If Jessica is teaching us anything... it's that what we learn to overcome and transcend ourselves, not only helps us to discover and realise our own potential but gives us a wonderful gift to pass on to others too. Maybe, whatever it is you find hard and might be struggling with was given to you for a reason; maybe someone else is waiting for you to lead the way, so you can become their guide...
