How Much Do We Need To Have Before We Give To Others?

Many of us understand that life is about both giving and receiving; that to be successful in any walk of life, there needs to be balance. With the festive season of giving right around the corner, the question emerging in our minds is, what can we give? Whether it's our time, our love, our money or just our attention... what do we have to give?

This question was beautifully answered by homeless man Johnny Bobbitt Jr from New Jersey when motorist Kate McClure ran out of fuel on her journey home. Mr Bobbitt helped her by walking to the nearest fuel station and gave his last 20 dollars to buy her the fuel she needed to get home. Touched by Mr Bobbitt's selflessness, Ms McClure has set up a fundraising campaign to help him and has raised $100,000 so far to help him get off the streets. She wrote on her fundraising page that:

"I wish that I could do more for this selfless man, who went out of his way just to help me that day... I truly believe that all Johnny needs is one little break. Hopefully with your help I can be the one to give it to him."

The level of giving shown here by Mr Bobbitt touched the hearts of many millions of people around the world and acts as a timely reminder that we do not have to wait to have ‘enough’ before we can give to others. The act of selfless giving is not about how much money we have in the bank, but rather the kindness in our hearts and our willingness to make sacrifices to help others. Read more on this story here...
