With our work helping young people and children over the last 10 years and the closure of Kids Company in August 2015, we have a strong interest in looking at sustainable ways of ensuring that children get the best possible upbringing. Recently we came across a couple of Canadian brothers who started to believe they could change the world before they even became teenagers!

Kids Helping Kids

Back in 1995; Craig Kielburger, a 12-year-old in Canada read the story of Iqbal Masih, a 12-year-old murdered in Pakistan for speaking up for human rights and felt he needed to do something about this. Since then he has joined forces with his brother Marc to build a global movement that has been empowering millions of children across the globe to take an interest in helping other children. It's a very different approach and one that we share at our sister company Lighthouse Kidz.

Adults Helping Kids

Free the Children is an international charity and education partner that started 18 years ago and is now working with more than 4,000 schools. They launched the for-profit social enterprise Me to We in 2008 as a way to raise more funds for Free the Children.

The two brothers have maintained their passion for helping young people throughout this time and engaged with globally-renowned legends such as Oprah and Richard Branson. Craig and Marc believe that many children think that they can’t make a difference by themselves, so they look for opportunities to bring together good-hearted young people as shown in this inspiring video.

Helping Young People to Believe

The Kielburger brothers strongly believe that empowering young people has the potential to change the world and want to instil this belief in as many young people as possible. They feel that many people in today’s society have forgotten how to be compassionate and build community. They see solutions to significant global challenges coming through nurturing youthful enthusiasm. They are very open about their aim to put themselves out of business - contributing to a society where children are free from poverty and other obstacles to reaching their potential.

Working Together For Change - WE DAY 9th March 2016

At Lighthouse Kidz we also have a very similar ethos of creating sustainable social businesses to support those in need and helping kids to mentor kids is right at the core of that! So we are currently speaking to Free the Children about how we can work together. 9th March 2016 is WE DAY where they are bringing together world renowned speakers, A-list performers and tens of thousands of young people to celebrate a year of action that transformed communities and changed lives.
