Duchess of Cambridge Campaigns For Mental Health
By Repa Hamid, Legends Report Contributor
The Duchess of Cambridge campaigns for students' mental health with the launch of the'Mentally Healthy Schools' website to educate and inform staff, families and students!
Heads Together is a Royal charity spearheaded by William, the Duke of Cambridge, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry under the Royal Foundation. The campaign was introduced in May 2016 and since then has introduced many projects to inform and educate people about mental health. The campaign works with many mental health charities including Mind and Place2be to name a few. The charity also introduced two projects, one about military mental health and one about schools’ mental health. In February 2018 the pilot phase of the ‘Mentally Healthy School’ website was introduced
The website aims to offer information to teachers and families about student mental health with support from resources, as well as identifying and protecting students’ from mental health challenges. The website was created in partnership with mental health charities like Place2Be and YoungMinds and is continually being reviewed for quality.
The Duchess said in an essay she wrote for the Time to Mind campaign:
"I feel strongly that young people and parents need to know that they can ask for help, just as with physical health, we need to act early to provide support when a child is faced with emotional difficulties."
Campaigns like these can be so important in educating and informing all those involved in a child’s well-being, often it can go unnoticed when children are suffering from their own mental health issues, however websites like these can allow parents and teachers to be able to identify these issues and give enough support to students who need it. The video below shows the Duchess speak on how important it is to have a website for teachers and families to use as a resource.
How To Apply This
It can be hard for adults to go through their own mental health issues, but it can be even harder for children. Allowing teachers, families and even students to learn more about mental health can create a positive and healthy learning environment that can teach us the importance of the relationships we all have with one another, whether that’s our teacher, our friend, or our children, educating ourselves in mental health can be a great way to support ourselves and others we care about.
Using websites like this one or Mind, Place2Be and the NHS can give us the right information when we need it! What do you think, do you feel educating yourself on mental health can help you or others in your life? Or do you need help talking to others about getting started with this?
