Brendan Cox's Alternative Christmas Message To Build Bridges In 2017

By Sukh Singh, Associate Partner & Mentorship Coach, Lighthouse International

Earlier this year, Jo Cox MP was shot and killed. She was someone who was passionate about change for the better and did her best to be someone who stood for what she believed in. On Christmas day, her husband, Brendan Cox, delivered an important message of reaching out to others rather than creating divides. Every time we think or declare that someone else is the 'enemy', then we are creating another barrier in the world. Every time we try our hardest to build bridges, we build a safer, healthier home for ourselves, our children and our loved ones. This is one of the hardest principles to live by; genuine empathic communication, and it applies in our families, our work and in wider society. Here is Mr Cox's message...

If there was one person you could build a better relationship with this year, who would it be? What can you do today to start that process?

Princess Diana Was The Only Person Who Made George Michael Feel 'Normal'

“Diana was the only person that I knew who made me feel like an ordinary person. That’s what I thought was so amazing about her... I could have kept in a lot more contact with her because we really got on well... But I was always reluctant to call her up. It was almost like a mate of mine who doesn’t want to call me up too much in case it looks strange – because he thinks that everybody else is calling me up... It was the same equation with Diana and I. She meant so much to so many people, including me.”

I came across this article this morning and found it sad, ironic and an important reminder that in George Michael's life, he found one person that he connected with, someone who truly understood him, yet he felt that trying to speak with her more often would have been a burden on Princess Diana. Now he is also gone, I wonder how many people will say the same about him too...

We've got about a week left of 2016... How do you want to go into the new year? It doesn't matter how busy, how stressed or how lazy you might feel. Now is the time to pick up that phone, write that letter, send that message, whatever you want to do, let the people who matter to you know that they matter. Thank them, appreciate them, we don't need a reason to do it! Don't wait until it's too late...

Richard Branson's Tips For a Healthy New Year

While many of us will have indulged, and possibly will continue to indulge in a lot of rich food this holiday season, a lot of us also have an eye on the new year to maintain and improve a healthy lifestyle. As Richard Branson noted in a recent Christmas blog, being healthy and having the physical energy in our bodies enables us to achieve so many other things in life.

Mr Branson has written a short blog about this and I'd encourage you to read up on it. What I love though, is how it's not just about eating healthy, it's about enjoying our lives and being balanced, as you can no doubt see from the picture above.

Here's 4 Questions to set you up for a healthy week!
