You could look at the wealthy, beautiful and now happily married super model Cindy Crawford and think there's someone with a fairytale life. However, did you know her younger brother died from Leukaemia when she was young, which later led to the difficult divorce of her parents? That's before the challenges and predjudices she has faced in her adult life and career too... Here's some great advice from her on how learning to embrace pain and difficulty is exactly what helps us make the most of life...
We all have bad times, even super models. Whether it's dealing with a loss or an illness, being bullied, a difficult relationship or a dysfunctional family, we will all experience pain; what counts, is how we deal with it. It's easy to suppress bad feelings and run away from difficult situations, but is that healthy? Many highly successful, contented people will tell you that facing their hardest times head on is what made them into who they are and helped them learn to enjoy a rich and full life. At the end of the day, it's not what happens to us that matters, it's about our attitude towards it.
"I think a lot of people in our society, they try to avoid pain. They spend so much energy avoiding a person that they don't want to have that unpleasant conversation with. My philosophy would be more like; go there, have that and work through it and get to the other end of it, because that anxiety that you're carrying around by avoiding it, or by postponing it, is way worse than just being there and doing it. That to me is the richness of life. You have to take the good and the bad." ~ Cindy Crawford
