Arguably one of the greatest footballers of our time is Lionel Messi and he has now been officially recognised by FIFA as ‘Footballer of the Year’ four years in a row, which is a staggering feat. He is undoubtedly a master of his craft. So whether you follow football or not we can learn a lot from this young legend in how he behaves both on and off the pitch...

This question takes me back to my personal statement for UCAS when I applied for my undergraduate degree! I studied a broad range of subjects and had wide interests, which made me a bit of a jack-off-all-trades. I always wanted to be strongest at mathematics – and thus I did my undergraduate in mathematics. In the interim, I’ve “mastered” economics and finance. I am now seeking to master practical programming, so my next thing to master is computing.
It would be interesting to hear about sporting heroes who have had to master something else – for example, a cricketer who has had to convert from being a bowler to a batsman. The concept of retraining themselves to do something related but different to their role in the team.

Hi Jannat, thanks for sharing. Sounds like you’re on a roll! How about in the future? Anything outside of your current hemisphere you’d like to master?

With sportspeople retraining that is a great idea. What peaked your interest about that? We’ll definitely be looking into it and feel free to recommend anyone specific!
