Secrets From The Healthiest Village In The World

By Sukh Singh, Associate Partner & Mentorship Coach, Lighthouse International

"By reducing intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates, I’ve seen type-2 diabetes reverse, something we were taught at medical school couldn’t happen" - Dr Aseem Malhotra, speaking about the Italian village of Pioppi

In one small village, men and women live to on average, 89 years - some to around 100. This isn't necessarily a major exception given modern medicine. What is unusual, is that they do so without developing diseases that most Westerners fear, such as type-2 diabetes and dementia. Understandably, Dr Malhotra, who is the founder of 'Action on Sugar', decided to visit the village to find out what was going on.

"The word diet as we understand it is a misinterpretation of the Greek word 'diatia', which means lifestyle.. Eating olive oil and fresh fish was just part of the Pioppians’ wider picture... which included habitual daily movement, lack of stress, good quality sleep, and a sociable, inclusive society."

There are a lot of fads, trends, must-eats, must-not-eats that come up every day in the news. The reality is that fundamental principles of renewal and balance are key to our physical, mental and emotional health.
